Sermon Reflection - "Committed Member"
John 13:31-35 - "Committed Member"
Healthy church members are identifiable disciples of Jesus by their love for one another. It is by this representative love of Christ toward each other that the world would recognize them as Christ followers. And it is in the context of the local church where Christians can demonstrate this kind of love most accurately and effectively.
Truths from What is a Healthy Church Member? by Thabiti Anyabwhile
Thabiti suggests that "people don't become committed church members--and therefore healty Christians--because they don't understand that such a commitment is precisely how God intends his people to live out the faith and experience Christian love." He offeres eight characteristics of a committed church member:
- Attends regularly
- Seeks peace
- Edifies others
- Warns and admonishes others
- Pursues reconciliation
- Bears with others
- Prepares for the ordinances
- Supports the work of the ministry
Using the eight characteristics, on a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your commitment to membership? If your rating is not a 10, what ways could you improve?
